RUBY EASTER YARD

Our kitchen table is laid for Easter.
Serina will be home early next week, and I like to keep the house ready for homecoming queen.
I have gathered hens, cocks and chickens for decades. Many are antique, other are home made.
Darling daughter has carved out the tiny wood cock, and signed her name on its tale.
There are different explanations as to why poultry seems to have such great influence in Scandinavian Easter celebration. Again the link between spring and new life. The hen and the eggs are ancient fertility symbols. Where as the rooster points at Peter's fall in Gethsemane. Mathew 26: "
34Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice."

Once more pagan and Christian culture live side by side. Yet we celebrate Easter or paske as we say, at the same time of the year when the Jews are celebrating their
Pésach.
First Sunday after first full moon after the veronal equinox. And we like to eat our Easter lamb.

My Felisol, you do have a wide assortment that you've collected. I love how you long for each visit with your Serena. She is greatly loved by her mama; that's for sure.

Thank you for your words of comfort and wisdom to me. We are all moved now but still not settled. The garage is filled to overflowing with unpacked boxes. But little by little I'll get to it. I think I'll find that I may not need much of the stuff I accumulated over the years. However, I want all my photo albums; that's for sure.

Love and blessings to you,
Debbie

How beautiful they are! My Mom collected chickens for a long time. She has a house full.
I enlarged the image to find Serina's. How precious it sits among all the others.
Enjoy her visit!

Plenty of chickens, hens and roosters, for the look of life in Spring, for Easter. The look is light and amusing, a wonderful welcome home to Serina. A lovely look at a beautiful place setting...

What a great collection and interesting correlation between the Rooster and Easter. I'm sure that cock has crowed on my shortcomings many a time too. I'm happy that I'm forgiven as Peter was. Later this week I'll be pulling out my Easter goodies. We bake a Russian Easter bread that some call Paska. We call it kulich. Our Easter is called Paska also...

Oh my just opening this page brought on such asplash of color, beauty and artistry.

You have laid out such a beautiful , welcoming and symbolic table for the family to enjoy and celebrate the resurrection.

I have a small chicken and egg from Russia which I bought from a missionary sale and a friend from America gave me tiny China-made chicks and eggs. I like to out them out.

Easter is celebrated in India in a very sombre and solmn way. We decorate our churches with palm leaves on Palm Sunday, them have hot cross buns on Good Friday. People have a breakfast of hard boiled eggs and buns after Easter Dawn services.

I like the Norwegian customs.

My....my Serina did a brilliant job with her carving

You always have the most marvelous holiday decorations. What a treat for all of us that you share them, and your traditions, with your readers.

What a shame that the grove burned. Was it in the Carmel Forest near Haifa? There was a terrible fire there a few years ago.

I love your collection! I have a couple of chickens, one is a covered glass dish and the other is a rooster perched on a shelf next to an egg thermometer and a small basket. I am sure you will enjoy your visit with the Homecoming Queen! Happy Wednesday from Texas!
