Ruby rest of summer

Two weeks ago; when this picture was taken, I still had the chance to save some for the winter.
Now the golden opportunity has past.
Only the photo is left
.

The Dream (Graeme Edge)
When the white eagle of the North
is flying overhead
The browns, reds and golds of autumn
lie in the gutter, dead.
Remember then, that summer birds
with wings of fire flaying
Came to witness spring's new hope,
born of leaves decaying.
Just as new life will come from death,
love will come at leisure.
Love of love, love of life
and giving without measure
Gives in return a wondrous yearn
of a promise almost seen.
Live hand-in-hand and together we'll stand
on the threshold of a dream.

Graeme Edge and the Moody Blues - can't get much better than that! 'On The Threshold of a Dream' has been a favorite of mine since my college days. :)

These just have to be lingonberries! I just bought a jar and it's in my pantry, but the photo is MUCH more beautiful than the jar of berries. Now all I have to do is make some Norwegian pancakes with a small pile of lingonberries on top!! :)

Dear Sonja,
I'm afraid my berries are growing in my garden, plain red currants.
Lingonbær, tyttebær, red whortle berry, cow berry, mountain cranberry, are the different names of the small red berries growing on the ground, to be found on moors or lower mountain areas.
I freeze mine, and then take up a cup or two, mixing with sugar and serve with waffles, meat cakes, deer beef, as mix in cream cakes, just about anything.

Only few take the trouble to search for lingon berries nowadays. Luckily Polish students come up to Norway every august to pick them.
Lingon berries are also tasty made as jam.
Almost as good as cloud berries.

The berries have that ruby color that shouts 'TART', bit add a bit f sugar for that perfect balance of tastes!

Yes, autumn takes us into winter and the leaves will die after they fall. Yet I like living in a four-season climate. After a bleak winter, the new life, the growth will invigorate us yet again. A dream that keeps us going...

This photo is incredible...

And the poem, it is new to me.

So lovely. I will make a copy of the poem and photo and paste it in my journal.

Your artistic way of combining poetry with photograph is such a delight, Felisol.

My wish for you is that the beginning of another season brings your heart beautiful hopes.

Love
Lidj

A marvelous shot, felisol. When my husband went to work everyday I was at home alone. There was no one to ask me irrelevant "whys?" :)

Felisol said...

But,Teach Mary, then you didn't have anyone to ask about the clock either!

Felisol, you are so blessed to have such an abundance of delicious berries in your garden! I really love that here in Norway there are so many really creative uses for them...so tasty! :)
That poem is beautiful...it really stirs the heart with its incredible imagery.
God bless and have a lovely fall day (even with the rain storm!:)
