My mother against all odds

I love my mother and I love my God.
An old Norwegian saying is "Man predict, God verdict."
My mother has been predicted to be dead within a few hours over and over again for the four last years, not to speak of the four last month.
On the picture taken a week ago, she was knocking on heaven's door again, bedridden with severe pneumonia. Gunnar had to go up in her garden and bring pictures of her flowers down to the hospital, but as you can see, he also managed to call forth a smile and a glimpse in her eye.
Today Serina is in Sauda, visiting her. They went to the dentist, and then my mother went to bed. A few hours later Serina got a phone call from the nursing home. My mother wanted to come to Aaboedalen immediately,if not she'd call a taxi. She wanted Vienna bread and a thorough inspection of the bunads before Mai 17th, "syttende mai." They had a wonderful time together, sipping coffee  and discussing English, American and Norwegian literature, before bed time.
The ruby? Pattern on her bed sheet.

Much love and gentle hugs for your mom. Serina is a jewel. You and Gunnar are the necklace she hangs from.

Felisol. your mother, against all odds, looks as if she's again recovering. Like you wrote, that playful hint of a smile...and those laughing eyes. She is young even now!

Man can judge and predict all he wants, but the verdict is God's.

Nice to be here with you, Fel. Hope your mother does not suffer too much in these near-death episodes.
PEACE!

I'm so glad I was at my desk and just saw this new posting. Those Norwegian mothers of ours... the viking strength is woven into their very being!

This does my heart good, to see her pictured here, and to hear of her spunkiness with Gunnar and Serina.

I continue to send my prayers and my love.

She is an inspiration to me, through you, and she is making me smile tonight!

Love to all of you.

Only God knows the hour when we will leave this earth. I am so glad that your mom spoke up about something she wanted to do. And your lovely Serina was there to accommodate her wishes. That says so much about her character.

I have to smile as I read Sonja's comment. Yes, the Viking strength! My husband always comments on that in me too. It may be Viking but I believe it's also God's strength at work in us.

Love you,
Debbie

Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies"

Dearest Terry,
My Mom sure knows she's loved by you, I have brought her cards, pictures and Bible verse stickers from you. You are enclosed in my mother's Bible, and once there, you never get lost or forgotten.
That said, it has been a great comfort to all of us to have a Canadian and an American blogger family praying.
"When I am weak, I am strong", because of all the wonderful people praying.

Dear Bernie, You nailed it; still lots of spunk in the old Lady Mom. (soon to become 90, she says, but it is actually 87)

Monten is a steel magnolia, so determined and ressiliant. Her life flows into the family..

She look s like a frail angel lying under that quilt. And that 's your hand holding hers..

So glad Serina is with you all.

Love to all of you

Dearest friend,
What a lovely picture...

I agree with all of them, the "ruby" in the photo is your mother.

Saluting her for her inner strength and for all her years, her beauty still shines through.

Much love
