RUBY MOMENTS

These pictures were taken on a local beach, granted the people of Haugesund by the Jew Moritz Rabinowitz. He and his family were killed in Holocaust just a few years after this donation. His spirit and kindness is living on. This is my favorite beach where we went to gather strength two days before the funeral of my last aunt.
I often wonder how people take life, health, family for granted.
How they are making plans for the future, as if it is their right to have a future free from sorrow, loss and  illness.Or for that sake a future at all.

I hear them making plans; next year I'll have new teeth, take a sabbatical, celebrate our silver wedding, even plan a pregnancy 12 month ahead and start saving for college for the perfect child to come.

Life has taught me, I just have today, not even always today, but this very moment.

For nine years we have had our bags packed, and our cellphones on our night stands for emergencies. We have often had to use them.

Even more I have learned to cherish the moment, to seize the gifts God is sending.
A day at the beach is a "dream day", with low shoulders, children's laughter, a book, flowers and red toe nails in the white, soft sand.

"Oh gift of God,
Oh perfect day,
whereon shall no man work,
But play,
Wheron it is enough to me,
Not to be being,
But to be."
H. W. Longfellow.

Thank you for the lovely memorial note about the beach.

I suppose we need to do both in life: plan ahead and live in the moment. Both have merits.

Happy to see those enjoying the beach.

What a beautiful beach to take time to rest and refresh! I believe there are times to rest, times to work and times to reach out to others. We make our plans. But God is in charge. As a person who likes to plan, I've been learning that.

Blessings and love,
Debbie

You are my favorite poet.

Your words spin a tale and create a picture, as well as always give thanks to God for all He has given. I need to hear your words, they express sometimes in ways I haven't even thought about, and always make me smile! :)

Dear Leora,
I tried to reach your blog site, but in vain. I'm directed to a post from 2009.

No need to thank for the words about Moritz Rabinowitz.
( Son of a rabbi?)
He gave this town so much, not only by creating a confectionery factory, several shops in the district, but his concern for his employees are still working.
He was also a very well read and brave man. With words he fought against the nazis from his little corner in Haugesund to papers and presidents all over the world.
He saw what was coming, but he still didn't flee from his destiny. He bravely continues his battle to the bitter end.

P.S. I had a most pleasant visit from your niece and her friend.
She was a rare and most sympathetic girl.
I learned more about Judaism in two days than I have been able to accumulate a whole life.

An empty beach is a place to recharge by relaxing, taking the recent burdens off of our minds for a little while. Laughter, while often hard to fathom in our grief or tension comes hard - a child's laughter at the beach will soften us up to the optimal place of relaxation. We need the simple pleasues of sand and sea...

Such a lovely beach &a a moving story of how it came to the people.I am glad He & his family are remembered by his kindness.Yes the bible warns us not to make plans without considering the Lord first. But I often have,I agree when we are older we learn the truth that we can only count on what is happening now , we are not promised the future.I am glad you had a wonderful day at the beach & some cherished moments !
