Songs my Mother taught me # 8

I shot this picture almost two years ago.Gunnar was about to shovel snow from the veranda, my mother meant she could manage that herself.
My mother had been severely ill several times after nursing my father for five year. She had a stroke, had a severe heart failure, broke an arm and a hip and she had anxiety attacks. Even so she loved staying at home, there was her place on earth. Nurses came four times a day, she didn't like it, but that was the price she had to pay to live among the things she had created. The nurses didn't always understand her, but my mother demanded the right to be herself. She spoke the dialect of her birthplace, she had her Christian belief and her Bible would always lie on the coffee table. " I am a simple farmer girl, I love to dig in the garden, to watch things grow, and I like a good laughter, " she would tell the doctor, when he advised her to take it easy.
I think she's having a great time in heaven, being allowed to help out in God's own garden.
Perhaps she's exchanged some words with old Shakespeare too.She sure lived the way he preached.

"This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.
Farewell, my blessing season this in thee!"

I am so GLAD to be back on your blog and reading your words of wisdom. I have missed you Felisol, and I wish I could say how often you speak to my heart. You have such a way of expressing, I love it!

This is such a cute picture. Those Norwegian mothers of ours were such strong women! I can just picture them up there... :)

This is a marvelous tribute to your mother. She sounds like she was a great lady!

I hope you have a lovely week!

I used to work with people who lived in nursing facilities full-time, and what I sensed was that what you, the resident (and consumer) couldn't decide what was best for themselves - such a lack of dignity. I would hope tat receiving the services at home would be better. Of course as your mother knew, even that dignity was not provided...the old saying "home is where the heart is" is so true, starting with your family growing together in love. In heaven, she has all the care she needs and true dignity. This is a sweet post!

What a fantastic photo, very fun! If you are any reflection of her, she must have been an amazing woman, rich in God's grace and love and a blessing to others.

Every time I visit a blog and see a comment from Sonja and see her photo; I smile. I'm so glad she's back.

I love this picture of your mom and Gunnar. I love the story behind it too. Your mom loved her life and wanted to live it as long as God gave her breath. I respect that.

And you're so right. She's probably tending garden in heaven. And what a beautiful place that will be.

Love,
Debbie

I just love having Sonja back in the saddle, and everyone who visits feels like a good, heartwarming friend.

My mother's great personality lay in the fact that she dared be true to herself.
she never performed or pretended to satisfy other people. Of course she payed a price being so, but that was a price she willingly paid.
As you see, she liked to be in charge in her own home, but she also loved a willing, helping hand, and Gunnar got to shuffle snow, and lots and lots of other things.
He never threatened her dignity and was her favorite helper. Her last words to him was, "Gunnar, you have been a valuable growth to our family." What a testimony. Next day when we returned she had had a last stroke and could not speak. 5 days after that she was home in heaven.

What a gift to your family .. her parting words to Gunnar .. and you know she spoke the truth. I am still warmed to the heart each and every time I see her picture and remember her with great admiration and fondness. Love & Hugs,

Hi, Felisol! SURPRISE! It's ME!--grin!

Love reading your straightforward descriptions of people now--and way back THEN!

As for mothers...well I did not "like" my mother, but have come to realize there is NO creature on earth quite like a mother...whether bird, elephant, or human.

Thank you, lovely woman!
PEACE!
