RUBY MEMORIES

Originated by MaryT, check hers for today.

I collect, therefore I am.
As my memory is slowly getting blurer, things, smells, music, scenery, houses
make my past vivid.
Life has been good, mostly good.
I do not expect a rainbow to last forever,
but I sure do what I can to keep the golden seconds linger on.
Freud, perhaps, might have had other explanations for my collection of purses and handbags.
I stick with mine.
The taffeta pompadour was hand sewn for me by my mother in 1956. It matched a similar dress, also pointed with glass bead.
Did I feel like a princess? Nobody even
guessed that the dress was a former suit of my American aunt.
The purse with gold embroideries has
actually never been used. It's on display on my bedchamber dressing table.
It was not cheap either. I bought it five years ago in the V&A museum shop in London, after visiting an exhibition of objects from the art decor period.
Eleven friends went over to England to celebrate the 110 anniversary of one of the couples.
Later that summer my brother was diagnosed with cancer pancreas, my mother had to undergo a total hip replacement surgery and my dad had a brain hemorrhage, which finally killed him last summer.
I do so cherish the rainbow before the lightning struck.
Coincidentally we also visited a breathtaking exhibition of Salvador Dali at The Old County Hall on the South Bank.

It revolutionized my perception on the multitalented and brilliant artist.
The perfume bottle is designed by Dali.

Hubby Gunnar says I must start using an ordinary camera to get control over the light exposure.
Daughter Serina cannot understand that I don't put all my pics through photoshop. Maybe its time to let the old cellphone go?

Felisol, just continue to take the pictures. Keep the memory, just take the picture! Do not worry about whether it is a phone or camera...

You note the smalls of the past for one. When we started going to our church seven years ago, it is an old building, and when i entered the kitchen...I was taken back to the smell of my grandmothers kitchen when I was a kid. I hadn't thought about since I was a kid!

Wonderful post about the good things amongst the painful...

As long as you're getting photos like these, keep using whatever it is you're using.
Nice collection!
And the bookstore deals in college textbooks, which if you're a student is handy since it's right across the street from the university. But if you're just browsing for some reading material, maybe not the best choice. It is unique though.

Dear Mary,
I liked the name of your photoblog. Saving memories by photo is my interest too.
With your two little ones times just seems to fly.
Were it not for the photos, I would hardly remember what an endless joy and it was being a mother of a child.
All the little miracles.
First step, first mouthful of food.
Oh...
Keep up the good work.

Dear Ralph,
do you know that we visited each others site simultaneously.
That cannot be a coincidence according to Terry.
Thanks for the nice words.
I do cherish them. I will continue looking for good things in and around me.

Dear Mojo,
you are too good willed.
The bookstore looked intriguing.
I am way passed the age of being a student, but hope I am still able to learn.
("He who isn't busy being born/is busy dying.")
Therefore I think I would like to have a closer look at the books.

Hi Felisol, you have some pretty red oldies. I guess I should look through Mrs. Jim's stuff. Or look around.
I like Salvador Dali's works a lot, I would liked to have been there.

Dear Felisol. This was such a nice post and nice pictures and yet it saddens me somewhat.
Oh what memories they bring back and oh what times that we can't really grasp again!
One thing though, it is so precious, that at least you have these treasures to hold, that help you to look back to those happy times.
Maybe the reason I am sad is because when you mention your Dad, I just can't help but think how you shared him with us during his last days here on earth. Sure we know he is in heaven but oh what a large space he has left!

You are like my sister Betty. She loves to collect purses and shoes, and she loves to collect porcelain dolls. I gave her an "Anne Of Green Gables" doll and she has it sitting up on her dining room shelf.
Oh how I am longing for the day that she will be home again and resting and just looking at the treasures that she has in her living room, given to her by her family and mine!

You don't know how much it means to me that you are praying for her....Love Terry

PS I love your phone pictures. Some of my most treasured pictures are the ones that I took with Mom and Dad Golden's old brownie 620 film camera!
You are the gold at the end of the rainbow my Felisol!

Thank you for sharing. I understand sometimes one needs to share the painful memories along with the pretty.

My son is a fan of Salvador Dali.

I loved your comment on my site: "how can anyone buy fish on the internet?" It made me laugh.

Your purses are gorgeous. And Dali is one of my favorite artist. I went to his museum once on Spain/France border. It was awesome.

Dear Ellen B,
your should not feel guilty, but yes, you missed something, sure did.

Bobbie,
a collector's heart will always recognize a fellow "country"man.
Don't you hate it, when people thin your home is full of weirdies and junk?

Dear Terry,
you are always too kind and goodwilled.
I love it!!
The good things from my past is building my future, and I cherish them more the elder I get.
As my Mom always was clever sewing, embroidering, knitting, painting and weaving our home and my friends' homes are filled with her work. (She always would say," Handicraft does not pay, I'll rather give it away then sell.")
Now, when she does not do any craftswork anymore, I sure do miss it. Just not getting more homeknitted socks, I do miss it, and I mend the ones she has made.
Praying for your sister Betty today.

Kerslyn and Paz,
a humble thank you for liking my stuff.

Dear Leora,
your son is probably a bright young man. I was stupid for a long time. Did not bother to take a closer look at Dali's work because the label "surrealistic" and his weird mustache.
He has stunned me and revealed HOW superficial I was!!
His works are brilliant and oh, so deep.

Ivanhoe,
from Scotland??
Hope I too will be able to visit that museum in not too long.

"just me"& "me and my camera",
thank you for nice words. I collect them as well.

Dianne,
the thing about cameras is that I'm kind of lazy..but I like taking snapshots.
My cellphone is always there at hand. An expensive camera requires a more conscious equipment and transportation. That is just not me.

Dear Saija,
yes, my collectibles sure do make my heart smile as well as my mouth.
You have pinpointed my view.
Now I just have to remember telling my Mom just that.
Aren't you a master in finding the right words in short sentences.
That's the author vein in you, I guess.I treasure that.

It's a good thing to remember the rainbows and golden seconds and to cherish the purses. And keep your cell phone too, you made these photos with your cell phone camera, yes ? The one with the overexposure is artistic !! a beauty and so are the others, so full of color, tissues and reflections.

Dear Hildegarde,
I have seen and admired some of your works, both photos and paintings.
They are swell. I'm considering it an honor to get good reviews from you.
And I will follow the developing of the painting of the nun and the flowers in the church.
I liked the photo.
