ALL RUBY SOULS' DAY

Originated by MaryT, check hers for today
Happy Halloween, with red points.
The teach is right; Halloween is a strange cult in Norway.
The closest we get is "All Souls' Day", which is an ancient celebration of the dead, held November 2nd.
That day we cherish and honor our dead, preferably in church. No monster pumpkin, no threatening "trick or treat",no scary masks.
Last Sunday hubby Gunnar and I were at an exhibition at the old Vicarage. These knitted vegetables in a knitted kitchen shall be my treat for Ruby Halloween.
We don't celebrate thanksgiving either, except for children placing neatly washed crops from the fields on the altar of the church, one Sunday in September.
If I've got you right, the second most important about thanksgiving, is families being gathered. Our single child, Serina, here pictured in a restaurant up north near by her college; well, she's coming home THIS VERY WEEK-END!!
Thanks, Lord.

Felisol, why do I scare the "living daylights" out of you? It's not a foul expression... :) Do you mean I use too many exclamation points? Ha!

Your daughter is a nice looking girl. I hope you enjoy your time together.

Knitted vegetables? Is that common or unusual on the far side of the sea?

Dear teach M,
I think your gravestone and skeletons and not to speak of the green headed man,- they are not decorative, they are witchy!

Dear yetg,
Yepp, when we are short of plastic and the real thing, we knit what we need. At least that keeps us warm and our minds soundly occupied, helps forgetting famine.

We have the same "All Saint's Day" "celebration" here in Sweden, many people celebrates Halloween nowadays too. I like the pumpkin bit, I'm not too fond of the over- comercialized part though...

That's a yummy looking chocoltae cake your daughter's about to have in the pic:) Have a good weekend!

Dear Pia,
The pumpkins are goodlooking, I agree on that. Here they are sold at florists for decoration, not for food.

The chocolate cake was freshly made by the woman turning her back to us at the picture. She came from Germany and worked at the Jugend museum of Aalesund for the summer. So friendly and hospital. Not at all Norwegian!

Dear Felisol
Oh what a happy Ruby Tuesday you will be having!! Your own little princess coming home for a bit!

I think that Thanksgiving day should be every day my Felisol just as Mothers Day and Fathers Day and Christmas!!
Who needs a special day to be thankful?
But you are right.
Thanksgiving is a family gathering where we must all take a break from our busy life and make sure that we are together.
Why should it ever be that the only place we see everybody is at a funeral, eh?

Felisol, my favourite part of your stove picture is the red brick floor. So homey, and the table, how simple, yet inviting!

Felisol, I like Halloween because having no children as you know, Bernie and I just love to have all the kids knocking at the door and we love to fill their bags with treats. We usually give out cans of pop and they really get a thrill out of it. When we lived in my beloved Manitoba, apples in those days were very scarce but every October, I guess the province must have ordered a whole lot in because that is the day of the year that we got apples when we trick or treated!
Nowadays in Canada nobody gives them out because the children have to throw them away because of some wicked people that put pins into them.
Have a good weekend with Serina my friend ...love Terry

In India the cahtolics celebrate All Soul 's day.

Instead of Thangsgiving we have HarvestSunday or just a Thanksgiving service.

Have a good weekend with Serina.

Knitted? Those are pretty cool.
Your info was wonderful to read. Sometimes we forget we don't all celebrate the same things.
Lovely daughter!

Well ... you have more 'spirit' than me with your All Ruby Souls' Day post. My MIL used to knit EVERYthing, including toy rabbits, chickens, elephants, etc., etc. I'll have to insist she make some veggies for my garden blog, eh??? How nice to have number 1 and only daughter home for your very own family thanksgiving celebration. Any time you are with family should be Thanksgiving Day ...

Dear Ralph,
funny that you should see that my daughter's hair really is reddish. She has for a time been Passing for a blond, but that's artificial.

Dear peachkins,
nice seeing you, also nice blogs you've got.

Dear Marcia,
I too like the real thing best.

Dear Terry,
you're so very welcome.
I am thankful for you opening my eyes to the real Halloween.
Hereafter I will think of this American tradition, (Canada also being a part of the North American continent), from a different point of view.
Fun for children, gathering family. Superb.

Dear Amrita,
I went to Wikipedia, and found that Halloween means All Hollows Eve.
I pick up information from the blogger fellows and learn. Love that.

Dear Carletta,
the above goes for you too. I am glad I'm getting new inputs and broaden my old world narrow horizon.

Dear Bobbie,
You certainly do not did knitting in flowering wonderful Hawaii.

Dear M& MC,
just what I said, like learning and appreciate the differences.

Dear just me (you),
gotta consume a lot of fibers according to the nutritionists.

Dear Grandma Faith,
I like your posts too.

Dear Dianne,
your Halloween Blog was both fun and educational.
Thank you ever so much for sharing.

Dear Mrs. Mac,
I sure think your MiL could get some knitting-inspiration. If you take a closer look, not only is the vegetables knitted, but the stove, the sink, the lots are knit work.
(Hope you didn't think my pic was that blur)
Everyone should have some knitting family member. Hubby Gunnar is soon run of woolen socks. My Mom has had this stroke, and not yet taken up knitting, but crouching though. Aunt Lilly is not well either, and the winter is knocking at the door. The socks in store aren't that warm or well fitted.
...Perhaps your MiL???LOL

Serina is not due home until Friday, but then the fireworks will start.

Dear Heidi, artist,
nice meeting you. Also nice blogs you've got.

Thank you for your visit to my GUM Dept Store and for your nice comment. I am so sorry I just came here, I am running very late and may never catch up.
