RUBY HARVEST TIME

Redeeming the time.
Summer in the north is short, too short, even with the long, blond nights.

Time for entertaining guests indoor and outdoor, family and friends visiting.

Time for enjoying beach-life and the abundance of festivals.
Just now; time for harvesting. Today I've picked black and red currant and stuffed in the freezer. Likewise I've made tea from burn nettles (cures everything from gout, arthritis, galleries, prostate, ulcer and even cleanses the blood.) Serina says if I'd lived 300 years ago, I'd be burnt as a which.
Boxes and bottles are filled. This big tea box contains dried bog myrtle.
If you wonder; it cleanses the air especially in cellars and keep moth from eating our valuable bunads and linen.
The fragrance is just so fresh, I get "high" from inhaling it.

Originated by MaryT, check hers for today.

What a nice and artistic planter. The look of the past, although really, much of the past is useful today, and your tea shows that. Without modern medicine in the 'old' days, natural remedies and cures worked fine then. Why not today as well? Still, you have lots of bright sunlight...you seem to make the best of any season!

Blond nights - wonderful name for the northern long summer days! I would have kept that pretty tin box too. I wish I knew more about herbs - they give such a relaxing feeling when we have them around!

Felisol, keep those bunads and valuable linens safe! You are very energetic lately, aren't you? So glad to read that.

BTW, I received a few photos from new relatives and posted them on last Wednesday's post. They were from Roan, which is close to Sumstad in the north. I am enjoying getting to know more all the time about Norway.

Love you and hugs to you,
Debbie

Dear Debbie,
I have great concern for the bunads.
Serina's great grandmother sewed a Hardangerbunad in 1903. Because Serina is the only grandchild or great grandchild named after her, the family decided for my daughter to inherit the old bunad.
We also have three others which my mother has made. They are equally highly treasured.

I'm so glad for you getting to know new relatives.
Family are a gift that cannot be praised or bought.

This planter is lovely. I like how you wove in your thoughts about harvest throughout the series of photos.

Nicely done.

Haha, blond nights! What a great description, as Ellie said.

ooohhh Serina is teasing you.

You 'd been famous as the Herb Lady or Cure Lady.
We have many such herb remedies and I prefer them.
Felisol you are knowledgeable about these things.

The other day. Two men came to mend our cable connection and they pulled out some herbs from our front yard saying it was a cure for hepatitis.

The tea caddy is very attractive.

What beautiful pictures, I assume they are pictures of Chinese tea tin cans?

Really artistic.

I don't even know what "blond nights" mean!

And forgive me my ignorance, but what in the world is a bunad?

Yes, even here in our country, people are now returning to herbal medicine, and finding that it works wonders!

Enjoy what is left of your summer. Before long, it will be fall, and the start of the long wintry season again.

Lidj

Dear Lidj,
Blond nights are those summer nights when it's hardly dark.
Serina painted to 10 pm the other night, had perfect light and no dew had still fallen.
Midsummer I think the sun is down for three-four hours. Now it's getting darker day by day, but only slowly.
The Norwegians love to sit outdoors these special nights, perhaps make a snack on the grill or enjoy a glass of wine.
I have my old guitar and play,-just once or twice a year.

The bunads are various traditional folk costumes, hand embroidered .
Most have lots of red in them.
I can show them on a Ruby Tuesday.
Thank you for caring and showing interest.

You DO seem to know a lot about herbs and I'm impressed. But a witch? Nope!

Summer is short here too. I cannot believe it's already August.

Hi dear Felisol,
I am back on your comment box to say Thank You for visiting my blog and leaving such an encouraging comment.

You are right, God knows what to send my way to keep me from being too sad about losing a husband. It is to fill my heart, and days, with things to do.

But also, to appreciate that He holds my seasons in His hands.

I also thank you for the song by Kris. So timely, and the words are beautiful.

I'm writing everyone who left a comment on my Cory post.

Thank you for your precious comments. This post is probably among the more important ones I have written. Having stormed the heavens together with other intercessors for our nation, I deeply feel the loss of a historical figure like Cory. I still have to find a place and time to express my grief before God.

Selfless leaders like her are sadly missing from our modern day history. She's the only one I know of, and the hundreds of thousands of common people standing in the stormy weather waited for the funeral cortege to pass by...flowers and candles that have been left in front of her residence in Quezon City...all attest to the love the people have for her. Our nation has truly lost a mother who cares and who will fight for us.

It is time to wait upon God to see what He will do next.

Thank you for reading my post, caring, and showing interest.

Love
Lidj

Very clever shots.

Happy belated RT! These sure are pretty, I know the women appreciate them a lot more than I do.
I did do an RT last Tuesday. It started out with a black truck like I drove to high school from my calendar page for August (first post in August).

The truck was followed in the same post by my Willie Nelson album (CD) jacket. He has a lot of red.

I didn't post about it, but Bob Dylan came to our outdoor Pavilion that weekend also. Willie Nelson was there too. Mrs. Jim didn't want to go and I didn't want to go alone this time. He will be back in a few years.
I know you'd have been there.
..

Felisol said...

Sure, Jim, I would have been there, so would my family.
Through thick and thin.

You have given me more herbs to research now. I think that God gave his creation all they need to make them healthy with the herbs of the land. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and inspiring me to learn more.

I am having thoughts of bog myrtle and trying to imagine the scent. Getting 'high' on scents is therapeutic .. today I made batches of basil pesto to stick in the freezer for wintertime. The basis is overflowing in my herb garden and I'm trying to make use of it.

Enjoy your company and the weekend.

Hugs,
