Ruby crowns

Bridal crowns

The Bridal crowns are photographed in a black room, behind glass and wires in the West Norwegian Museum for arts and crafts in Bergen.
They are all made of silver and some gold.
The foliage, the hanging leaves are special for our crowns and also for other bunad
jewelry.

The bridal crown can only be worn by a virgin, and only together with a Norwegian bunad.
Only few families possess a bridal crown of their own. Most museums will rent the bride to be a crown for a fair price. Even in America there is a museum where one may rent a genuine Norwegian bridal crown.

bunads
The 19 Norwegian counties each has its special bunad . Rogaland, my county has at least 8 various bunads . Here a Rogaland collection from Serina's confirmation. My mother has made both hers and Serina's. She also has made one for me.

Originated by MaryT, check hers for today.

Your bunads are beautiful Felisol! As is your daughter. I didn't realize that Norwegian brides wear these types of crowns. That's new to me.

Thank you for all of your insightful comments on Heart Choices. I appreciate each one of them.

Love,
Debbie

Those crowns are incredible. I have some photos I took of a Torah scroll that I hope to post later this week. the tops of the Torah holder remind me of your crowns.

Hi Felisol, those bunads are very pretty. Is Serena wearing your family bunad?
The crowns are neat too. We don't go into things like that here very much.
Happy RT! I have some RED this and thats, one is a RED 1950 Mercury Convertible. Of course I do some meme to go along with it. Like you do, I enjoy reading about your family and customs and traditions.

The bunads are beautiful. What a ton of work to make them!

I'm glad I don't have to wear a crown. They look heavy, ;-)

Hi Fel - what a lovely tradition. We have no such thing here but in Greek Orthodox churches and perhaps others, there is a crown. In Mexican weddings there is a lasso joining the couple together. A crown of flowers might appear in tradition american weddings but not often.

I love the photo of the first crown reflecting all the red.
The bunads are beautifully detailed. Much patience must go into their making.
Have a wonderful week!

The bunads show that you maintain customs, and your traditions continue. Lovely and ornate crowns. I think that the finest ruby surrounds the cross on the Norwegian flag, a bold and beautiful flag!

i think that i needed to see these crowns.
they remind me of the crown that the lord has given my aunt marion...the crown of life!
and that beautuful norwegian flag reminds me that, "his banner over us is love"
and what a sweet sight to me is mom ljung, princess serina and your friends.

Its 3.30 pm and I just got my electricity back so I can visit.

Wow those royal crowns took my breath away and the bunads made so painstakingly by mother.

Norway is steeped in romantic traditions. Its really unique. Imagine being able to rent a crown and feel like a queen. I 'd hold a sceptre in my hand too. LOL.

Mother 's creativity and hardwork just knocks me down. What a seamstress she is to stitch those dresses which make all of you look like fairy queens.

I like the shoes too.The fabric is woollen isn 't it?

This is awesome, Felisol!

How proud the virgin must be to wear a bridal crown reserved only for those like her who have kept herself pure for her husband!

What heritage, what legacy, I hope the young ones are still aware of their nation's history, customs and traditions. May you be able to pass it down to the next generation.

Loved your post, as always!

Love
Lidj
