Diamonds and rust. Ash day at the harbour.

Have you ever examined a used car, boat, spouse, horse or whatever might be on the market,
and found that underneath that well polished surface,
was nothing but rust and rot?
Horse salesmen used to be famous for hiding major flaws like limping or
psychic damages.
These boats at Haugesund harbour have been restored by loving amateurs.
They are what they seem to be, and are certainly not for sale.
Isn't that a good thing?
Gray ash from Iceland does not manage to spoil true beauty of the harbour.
I's say it rather enhances the old ship and the even elder boathouse.

Red outperforms the slimy gray any day, any time.

dear felisol...this is such a stunning ruby tuesday post.
the stillness of the waters and the reflections in this natural mirror of the red buildings and the boats.
and the red flowers looking like people waiting on the shore!
patiently waiting for some action!

Felisol, this post--so inspiring:
Pride, workmanship, loveliness from ashes, color, all blogged in a meritorious manner. Thank you.
PEACE!

What a stunning photo! I love the red flowers in the foreground and the ships in the distance. I grew up across the street from the boat docks on Long Island. Many large boats were hoisted up while much needed work was done to maintain and repair them.

By the way, I mentioned you in a post on Heart Choices about encouragers. Here's the direct link: http://www.heartchoices.com/2011/06/power-of-encouragement.html

You are an encouragement to me!

Love,
Debbie

Beautifully composed picture. The flowers are like sentinels guarding the boats. Lovely sight

It is good that there are enthusiastic and dedicated souls that take the painstaking time to restore old cars, boats, houses .. even marriages. Lovely view of the harbor .. in spite of the volcanic ash.

Beautiful. Love the touch of red in the marina scene.

Your photo strikes just the right note of gloom, thanks to the ash in the air. Hope it isn't bothering you too much.

If you keep posting these beautiful photos, I'm just going to get on a plane and come back to Norway!! (I wish!) :)

This is the Norway that stays lodged in my mind as I picture the beautiful scenes we visited. There is nothing quite like it.

It's almost 100 degrees here today, so you KNOW how cool and tranquil this looks to me.

Hi Felisol,

You are a good influence on me. Because of contact with you, I picked up a mystery novel--translated from the Norwegian--by Jo Nesbo. It's Redeemer: A Harry Hole Mystery, a spy thriller involving the Salvation Army's ministry in Oslo.

A bit earthy in parts but thoroughly enjoyable. I picked up another Nesbo mystery too but I haven't started it yet.

Here in Jacksonville, Florida, smoke from 53 wildfires cloud our air today. Lightening from summer afternoon storms sets pine forests ablaze--happens every year.

I love your photo of the flowers by the harbor, reminds me of our waterfront years ago when I was a boy.

Dear John C,
I've read the Redeemer some years ago. It's one of Nesbo's best. Beside the obvious thriller motif,it also have a thorough knowledge of the SA and what may be going on in enclosed environments and in a hurt mind.
My dad would have said "a miserably good and miserably sad novel."
Those were his favourites.

So beautiful, my dear Felisol...the red roses against the backdrop of the ash grey sky and waters.

This photo inspires so much peace and gentleness.

I was looking for your post entitled Israel.

Maybe you are still editing it.

Much love
