Our Father 4

Give us today our daily bread.

When I grew up, we used to have a porcelain platter with the gold inscription "Give us this day our daily bread". My mother's homemade bread was placed upon the platter for breakfast and supper.

It took me sometime to realize that we are praying for more than actually bread. We place the responsibility for our entire needs,
in the hands of God, our Father.
Day by day our daily bread. Like the Manna the bread will be provided us one day at a time. We therefore need to return in front of the Lord with the same prayer day after day.
We simply need to stay close to God, all the time, because our needs will change, but God's promises and power are eternal.

We need food for our bodies, food for our thoughts and food for our hearts.
Even if we don't feel and know of famine, like one billion of the population of the world do, we do eat food which poisons our bodies, read and watch material made to seduce our minds and hearts, and lead us astray from our goal.
We may think we are alive, but we are dying, according to the Revelations.

Indeed we need to pray for daily living bread and water.
Oh, Lord, please be the great provider.
"Give us today our daily bread."

dear felisol..i have never even realized what that daily bread is...oh the way you describe the real daily bread that we need to pray for just fills my heart with guilt that i have allowed the bad things that my mind is sometimes seduced with!

22For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

23But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

24O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

25I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

what i am really thinking dearest friend is that i should be praying the lord's prayer every day like we used to do in school..and now that you have been explaining it so well, i will pray it with better understanding!
god bless you felisol..love terry

Bless you Felisol, for helping me to meditate on this truth.

Wha t is our daily bread?

And man shall not live by bread alone, this verse has been echoing in my mind since the past few days. Specially when I walk past restaurants and food shops. My father supplies my daily nutrition needs and by His grace I can share my vegetables with needy people.I have allowed my neighbours to take freely from my garden, as they are facing financial difficulties - but the heart of the poor is so large they share their food with me.

Yes this bread is much more than physical food.

Do you have that platter stil?
I' d love to see it.

I like the phots of Gunnar that delicous beread, th e plate is so beautiful with the sunflower on it.

What comfort the daily bread provided by the Father brings. Food not just in bread alone .. but sustenance from His Word and the blessings given each day. You have broken this beautiful prayer down in bite size morsels :)
