Norwegian Easter Morning is first Sunday after first full moon after the vernal equinox. This year April 12th. Last Sunday the celebration begun with Palm Sunday. This is called the silent week. Schools have vacation and shops are closed Tuesday, Friday and Monday.
Gunnar and I went to the National Gallery in Oslo where Munch's Shriek is displayed. Somehow it reminds me of Good Friday, by us called Long Friday. If you have heard Ian Gillan cry out on Jesus Christ Superstar, you'll understand why.
Time for contemplation and vacation. Darling daughter is home!
Traditionally lamb is the food for paaske (Norwegian translation from Hebrew). Serina asked for Tandoori Chicken. It's steaming while Gunnar is out at the airport, picking her up.
Church concert this year; The Savior by father of the famous Lloyd Webbers, William.
We always hope for a small Serina air.
Paaske also is candies in an egg, Serina's already almost empty, games and reading. In Norway crime is the must of Easter reading. Long, long tradition. Psychologists say it has to do with the nature of Easter gospel; lying, deceiving, covering up and murder.
Salvation and resurrection not included.
We have a box of Easter decoration in the attic. Hubby Gunnar wasn't able to locate it among the zillion others.
I found this cock in a drawer. He's placed among basel, rosemary and lemon balm.
Hopefully we'll take a trip to Sauda as well.
That will be a topic for next Tuesday.
Originated by MaryT, check hers for today.

How lovely all the RED things for Easter or Passover! so glad your daughter is home with you and Gunnar Felisol! Iwish you all the best for the holiday! Happy Ruby Tuesday! :)
Darling Daughter is a beauty! Just like her mom.
We have a long and sometimes sinister maritime history here as well. the waters off the North Carolina coast -- especially Cape Hatteras -- were once called the "Graveyard of the Atlantic". Nags Head, NC got its name from pirates of the colonial period typing a lantern to a horse's head and sending it down the beach, luring ships with a false light so that they ran aground on the shoals.
The pirates of the 18th Century loved hanging around here because there were so many places to hide. Blackbeard is probably the most infamous of them, but he was hardly the only one to use the barrier islands as a safe haven.
what a delight to visit your blog and find a long interesting post. Your pictures say it all...Norwegian tradition, and lovely daughter, delicious meal, quiet time, silent week, long reading, Easter decors... all so fascinating.
Now I will look forward to next Tuesday's post.
Have a meaningful silent week with your family, and may Easter morn touch you in a fresh new way this year!
Felisol, enjoy your holiday. Love seeing your daughter and learning your traditions. I like Edvard Munch's the scream, but I wouldn't associate it with a holiday. I could see why with Good Friday, though. I think of Munch as modern alienation, not as a time-traditional kind of scream.
Did you say reading about crime is a tradition? Now that's unusual!
All these sights are beautiful. Your church is stunning, a wonderful place to pray and contemplate the death and rising of the Savior...and sing praises from the red hymnal.
The chicken looks delicious, and red. What we parents will not spare for our children. Ans Serina's hair is nicely red as well.
It looks like the rooster is 'singing' also!
What a beautiful set of photos. Your daughter is lovely, and I always love to see how differently holidays are celebrated in other countries. Happy Holiday!
Lots of red and a beautiful young lady! Enjoyed reading about your celebration of the Easter holiday.
What a wonderful post!
Let me see - the chuch is magnificant, I love the shadows in the first shot of your daughter for a very soft look.
Munch's Shriek - one of my favorite paintings. How really wonderful to see the original!
That little ceramic rooster with his red top is so cute in among the herbs.
Have a wonderful holiday!
I do hope to post the outcome of my 'matchstick' buds next week. :)
I'm fascinated how Easter is celebrated in Norway, so different from ours.
Your darling daughter is lovely and both you and Gunnar must be ecstatic to have her home.
Happy Easter!
Very interesting to read about Paaske and Silent Week.
We have services on Thursday, Friday and of course on Sunday.
On Easter morning many churches have Dawn Services followed by breakfast of Easter buns, hard boiled eggs and tea.
Serina look very chic in her new hairstyle.Hmmmm, very good Serina.
Children also get these marzipan eggs filled with candy from the bakers.
How dis the Tandoori chicken go? It looks delicious. Was it too spicey for you? You can make it mild.
Enjoy the music too.
Very nice description of the week before Easter in Norway. The whole week off sounds absolutely wonderful!
Canada has a four-day weekend (Good Friday to Easter Monday) so I thought WE were the lucky ones. But Norway is even BETTER!
So many reds that goes with tradition!
Your church is beautiful, Felisol.
What a wonderful collection of items and decorations to celebrate spring and the Easter holiday.
Your daughter is lovely. Isn't it nice when they come home to visit?
Happy Ruby Tuesday ~
I enjoyed very much reading of your Easter traditions. Have a lovely visit with your daughter - hope you get your air :)

Feeding the birds can be hazardous to your vacation
I love the "Scream" what an extraordinary painting ! I think we celebrate easter the same way as you in Germany or Belgium.
What a pretty post, so full of eye candy and excitement. Your daughter is beautiful. Must take after mommy, yes?
Love the little birdie - of course.
What a wonderful collection of photos. The photos of your daughter are both beautiful. I love the little chicken and the flute and... there were other but I can't remember what they were. Have a wonderful holiday and enjoy your daughter's visit.
GREAT Ruby Tuesday post!!
I enjoyed your Ruby post.
Hi Felisol, you wrote a nice educational blog. And you got Easter on the right day this year!
:-)
I don't know the significance of going to Sauda, I read a little about it. We are going to Katy on Sunday after church (daughter Karen and family live there).
Does the Easter Bunny dare venture up there? I don't know much about him except that he comes along with the American Easter Holiday. I feel he is aligned with the tooth fairy and St. Nick.
..
Yes Darling daughter is a beauty and how wonderful to have her home. Your Ruby photos are absolutely delightful, and the look into your life is as always very special.
Happy Easter to you and your Family.
Regards Eaton.
It's SO fun to see glimpses of places outside of our own doorsteps! Holidays are better when spent with family and loved ones! Enjoy your daughter!
I recognized the Rosemary right away! It's one of my favorite herbs and I like to snip off some fresh to garnish with. Usually salmon or pork.
Connie
dear felisol,
the princess has grown into such a lovely young lady.
she is a real beauty, i believe, inside and out.
the kittens on her sweater are little cuties.
do you notice that the kitty in the middle looks just like marcello, felisol.
i think i would agree with serina.
i think that chicken is a lot better
i am not a vegetarian but some how i cannot make myself eat lamb, veal, deer or rabbit.
i know that sounds stupid but i just love little lambs and little baby calves and the gentle deer and rabbits..how could people every eat those guys.[rabbits].
i think the older i get felisol, the crazier i get.
looking at munch's shriek just breaks my heart.
he looks so dejected, and so afraid and so alone..
yesterday i was on fire but today i am in the depths of despair for some reason...love you felisol...love terry
