This is Norway

Till recently Norway had but one TV Channel, the NRK.
Anybody owning a TV set in Norway still has to pay tax to the National broadcasting.

This summer they made a unique "show", following the famous Hurtigruten from Bergen to Hammerfest for 5 1/2 day. No news break, no commercials, no entertainment on board; just the boat sailing zig zaging along the laced coastline of Norway.
I've chosen this out-take from Tromso to honour my friend Sonja. It's the home-town of her mother.

Need I say that the show was a mega hit among Norwegians, with reruns ever after it was first broadcasted this early June.
Yes, we may be weird, but we love each mountain peak and fjord arm of this country.

Was it my imagination, Elise, or was that big boat going really FAST? One TV station. I can't imagine it but I'm guessing you don't have nearly the worthless stuff on your one channel as we have on so many. Ruts the brain, I think. Well, unless it's science fiction. Then it's alright.

Dear Annie,
Till 20 years ago we only had One TV network and I was fine with that. Now there are more, two other Norwegians and several Americans, Fox TV sending Sarah Pahlin, BBC world and others. We have the smallest package possible, but we had to have one sending Formula 1 racing.
As long as Serina was a child, I said no. We can buy as many video we like, and Serina certainly had the biggest VCR library in the neighbourhood. Mostly Disney, but we were in control.
Now she has to decide for herself, but she's still looking forewards to the new Harry Potter movie.
Me, I'm a night owl, but most of the stations are sending crime and horror at night time. Except for the sweet English murders, like the ones created by Agatha Christie, I am more a classical or feel-good person.
I think when a whole nation is watching a five and a half day long TV transmission, it's telling us, more than I have had enough of the crime, war and action stuff.
We like contact with real life and real people doing everyday thing in our familiar surroundings.

Weird .. NOT! Love of God and national pride are very fit .. and who wouldn't love your beautiful homeland. Thanks for sharing both!

We unhooked our satellite TV service because most of the shows were junk. Now we have limited free TV we receive with 'rabbit ears' .. small antenna attached to our TV. We get local/national/international news, BBC, and many public broadcasting shows of nature and history. A few children's shows too. Thanks for sharing the video.

Right now I was unable ti view the video, its says an error has occured, I' ll come back later for it.

About 18 or 18 years ago cable TV seriously entered the Indian network. Now we have countless channels - considering the fact that there are multiple regional languages and dialects. It is a very powerful medium here.

We have to pay an enterttainment tax when we subscribe to a cable network but the government channels are all free.

I love Norway ...the mountains, fjords, sea and especially the people! I love that you chose the outtake of Tromso to show for Sonja. Sonja is a special friend and sister to me also. How I would like to be one of the people on this boat touring all around Norway.

Blessings and love to you Felisol,
Debbie

I just got in and looked at this most wonderful ship and the Tromso shoreline in Northern Norway... Felisol, you have MADE MY DAY!!!

I am right there, ON THAT BOAT, waving with the passengers! :)

Carole Joy and I have talked so much about Norway, and taking another trip, and being able to meet you and your family. Wouldn't it be wonderful?? (I think we would have to sneak Debbie into our suitcases too!!)

I can dream, and I do... but for now, THANK YOU my friend for this most beautiful blog. I will treasure it many times over, as I do your sweet friendship.

Beautiful.

And I don't think you're weird either.

You, dear Felisol, together with Debbie, and Sonja, and Colleen, will always be among my special blog friends, only because you are Norwegians.

Thanks for sharing this video!

Love
Lidj

No, you are NOT weird. Your country is beautiful, although I have only seen it through your camera lens. I watched the ship and found it interesting. We have lots of channels, but can never find anything to watch.
