RUBY ANTIQUE

Originated by MaryT, check hers for today.
The Baldishol Tapestry (http://www.drakt.org/Baldishol.html)is the oldest made in Norway. Woven in the 12th century. The month April and May is depicted. The original is in a glass mounter in Art and Craft Museum of Oslo. We said hello to it, visiting our capital for the Dylan concert. The copy is embroidered by my mother some 35-40 years ago. Hangs in our living room. Another is in my birth-home. Very good memories attatched to these two guys. I found this picture taken by Gunnar some six years ago. My Dad is drinking water and my Mom has evidently been making food..in my home.
I guess she'd made a staple of her delicious waffles.
Up left is the picture she embroidered.
My Dad died two years ago June first.
I miss him so.

This is a really interesting image, Felisol. Clearly a depiction of the Holy Wars of the Middle Ages. the colors still look so rich.

What a beautiful tapestry, Felisol. You always seem to find something red, don't you?

BTW, I was so glad to read your comment about writing down all you eat and that it helps. I'm very happy about that.

This tapestry is beautiful, and surely the craftsmanship is superb to be still together to this day in the museum...and the copy looks beautiful. Remembering your heritage is wonderful...

I guess women were not that popular back then. Nice ancient version of a wall calendar. Modern one is usually full of Pretty ladies

dear felisol, the guy on the left with all the red hair and green beard is saying good bye to the man on the horse who seems to be going off to a war.
and by the looks of it, it is not ducks or pheasants he is hunting.
what does the picture mean felisol?
is it a church history tapestry?
there sure is a nice combination of colors!....lots of different shades of red and green and blue!
good one felisol....love terry

My Mom likes embroidery too - she makes a lot of orthodox icons in goblen. My father passed in 2003, but I miss him like it was yesterday. But it is our turn to live now - so I'm enjoying to look what is around me :)

Nice to show us your father. I can understand missing someone dear.

The tapestry is so flat (as opposed to Renaissance and later shaded, academic art) and cheerful. One could see how it could inspire a modern artist.

Felisol said...

Dear Terry,
The Tapestry is supposed to have had 12 pictures, one for each month of the year.
April and May is what's left. My favorite months.
I suppose the first one is man is welcoming the birds, returning from faraway lands. The May man looks as if he's on his way out, maybe an early crusader, wearing both helmet and shield.

The tapestry was found in an old church a hundred years ago. The wash lady used it for protecting her knees when cleaning those hard stone floors.

Thank oyu for kind words to my family. I will send them further on.

Wow, your Mom's embroidery skills are wonderful! I love that whole wall of artwork I see.
It's hard when a loved one passes. No matter how many years pass will still miss them. My Dad's been gone almost 13 years come July and I still miss him more every day.
Blessings and hugs.

Beautiful embroidery work, I'd love to see the original someday, medieval tapestries are real favorites of mine.

I wish I could taste your mother's waffles too!

PS How was the show? I haven't seen Dylan in concert since the late 80's.

Felisol said...

Dear Robin,
The Dylan show was..awesome!
The concert hall was full booked. The public varied from 18 to 75!
Dylan 's voice is rawer than ever, yet melodious and sensitive. He's playing kind of light jazz style.
Swinging and happy.
He had a variety of songs from the early 60ies to the then not released "Together through life".
None greater.. ever.

Dear Auntie E,
I've tried several times to answer your comment on your blog.
Somehow your blog site will not accept me. My writing has vanished into thin air.
I hope it doesn't happen to others, cause then you''ll loose deserved feed back.

Your red lawn tractor was so charming and you did well in repairing it.

Felisol, Things we have these days have short life spans. Nothing modern will last as long as those tapestry's you mention, I doubt it anyway. Your mom is good at tapestry needlework...and I understand the pain of loss of a parent. Twenty nine years since I lost my dad. Still I don't like to think about it. regards, Eaton. :))

Hi Felisol -- Do you think we ever, ever, will stop missing our Moms? I suppose our parents are in our memories almost as much as those living.

She did wonderfully witht he tapestry. Right away it reminded me of the The Bayeux Tapestry in Bayeux, Normandy, France. It goes around an entire large museum room.
That tapestry depicts the Norman invasion of France (and events leading up to it) back in 1066.

Your mom did good, the embroidery s beautiful. My mom embroidered a little, I think most women of her time did.

Happy RT,
..

A masterpiece indeed Felisol.

Mother is an artist and so deft with her hands. Excelling in what she does.

Holding such pictures close to the heart is so comforting Felisol.
Sometimes I dive into memories. They make me smile. Like our family your family is closely knit.

May the Lord comfort your heart as you remember your Daddy If I can he would be smiling down upon all of you and longing to embrace you. I feel that for my Dad too and also my aunt Sybil.

Sonia made a very intricaste tapestry for a missionary friend, it took her months to complete it.

Another lovely Ruby Tuesday post, dear Felisol.

What a dear couple, yes I know how you must miss you father. Mine died more than fifteen years ago, a pain still goes through my heart each time I remember his goodness, his gentleness.

Thank you for this post.

What a gorgeous tapestry. It must have taken your mother a very long time to stitch it!

What a lovely tapestry and a beautiful photo of your parents. Dealing with the death of those I love, I find that time goes both fast and slow... and two years or twenty seems like yesterday and forever ago.
