RUBY TRIAL AND ERROR

Gunnar found old negatives the other day. What fun to scroll down memory lane. Serina was just past 4 moth when the public health nurse told it was time to start feeding her porridge.
In Norway the public health nurse is involved with children's
upbringing from birth till 18 years. Mostly welcomed advices, but they also make house calls to each new born baby to see that the baby is properly cared for. We felt that "our" nurse was very supportive.

Spoon feeding Serina was not an easy issue. She wanted her milk bottle, period. She literally grabbed the little tea spoon in her own hand and insisted on being in control of her own porridge.

The aim was getting a half teaspoon full in her mouth.
The result was porridge in her eyes, fingers, my hair, hand and the sofa. In Norway there's an expression, "To take the spoon in one's own hand". Our daughter did that from the age of four month, and she never let go of it.

Pictures and scanning by Gunnar photo shopping by me.

A proud mom watches the baby's growth before her eyes. Our two were quite a mess with their initial servings of baby food. Such as Allegra and the baby peas...

The baby has a taste treat when they start on the (sort-of) solid foods. The mess is always adorable!

Haha. It must have been fun to watch her trying to feed herself.

.. the 'holding her own spoon .. continues to this day, eh:) .. I so enjoyed seeing these 'younger day' pics of you and Serina. In the states we have well baby check ups at the pediatricians office.

What a precious little story those 3 pictures tell! The laugh on your face is still there today when you speak of Serina!! I love it!!

And as to her holding the spoon herself and never letting it go... you wouldn't want it any other way. :)

Hugs!

It's interesting how the traits we see in babies often carry through into their adulthood. I have noticed that with my two daughters too. :) How nice to see these photos!

Hi, Felisol!

Thanks for bringing me back to those early days of new motherhood! Both you and Baby Serena look radiant!

It is such a good idea to have a public health nurse pay a visit to each family. Here in the U.S. we are not so pro-active. Usually the only way you can have help and care in infancy is are very poor and qualify for such services or if you are very rich and have a very exclusive developmental pediatrician. I wish we had more public health programs for everyone.

Thank you for sharing these moments in your life. I had so much to connect with you about here. :-)

oh felisol...what a buried treasure you have found!
such a cutie of a baby and such a pretty mama!
the public health nurse was a big help to me...several years ago we were looking after a baby that was related to us and who was going to have to go into the children's aide so bernie and i offered to take her in for about a year..
here i was with a baby and i knew nothing about how to do things.
when the public health nurse came for a visit, and asked me if i had any questions, i quickly asked her,
"how do i wash her ears?" ha!! you see felisol, although mom golden had so many babies, each time betty would claim them right away and so i never did learn...!!!
felisol, you and gunnar did a real good job raising your little princess!...........love terry

Hi Felisol,

Just catching up on reading your blog postings; my computer wiring has been down since January 7th.

My favorite of your recent postings is the one about the ring.

Does a gold ring really help the arthritis in your fingers? If so, where can I find a size 50 solid gold belt. My arthritis settled in my right hip.

How sweet ! I am just busy with digging out old baby pictures of my son he wants to compare them with his little 2 months old son, to see if he looks like him, lol !

Indeed "a home without cats is not a home" ! That's hanging in our toilet !

FELISOL! Does Gattina (previous comment) mean she has hung her cat in the toilet room--grin?

Hey seriously, pictures of Serina--any baby--lead nowhere but to pleasantness. (I'm still picturing her saying, "Daddy asleep!"
As if, "Well, NOW what should we do?"

Thank you for sharing these memories.

Hi Felisol, These pictures are so cute and fun.

Caring Mum and independent daughter. Baby Serina knew her mind even at this early age (smile) she is so cute holding her spoon and trying to feed herself.Baby memories gladden the heart. You look such a proud mum too.

I read John Cowart 's comment and laughed.
I need a gold knee cap for my left knee and a belt too for my back and hip pain.

In India during ancient times the Queens and royals used to wear pounds of gold - I think they did not have arthritis --- ( laughing)

I am praying for your healing Felisol.
