Comfort

I admit that the first month of this year has felt like climbing a steep mountain with no oxygen left.The worst things aren't the works that can be done, but the growing problems that only God in his grace can help solving. I'm happy to tell that this day we finally can see some light in the tunnel, and also that He has been there all the time, even when we could not see Him.



What did I do apart from praying, phoning dozens of officials, travelling to and from through blizzards e.t.c.?
I comfort shopped. On the local internet buy & sell I bid for items we didn't really need, but I fancied them as well as the auction thrill. Gunnar must be the angel of the year. He has driven me around the town to collect my trophies, not saying a bad word about we needing to use our money more wisely. The red radio to the left is almost equal to Gunnar's old iconic Norwegian made radio from the early fifties. Now we have two. The analogue ground net is to be closed down next year or so, but we'll still have the icons.


This Swedish produced telephone from 1954, called Cobra is also a worldwide known icon. Dell managed to keep it off the American market for some years, but it was simply too good to be ignored. The Americans called it the Ericophone after the Ericsson telephone company. I have wanted one for a long time and now it's decorating our kitchen table.

Serina told us she had sent a little comfort thing from Dublin.
I simply could not imagine what that might be.
The Hobbit arrived Saturday, so now we can continue our loud readings, even after Serina has brought her copy with her to Ireland. Wasn't that a nice gesture?

Thank God for Skype. Even my mother has talked with Serina on Skype and she felt so relieved so learn that "Baby" was doing fine. So do we.

Carpe Momentum

Some days life seems more valuable than others. Or how shall I put it? Life with all its wealth is more fragile and therefore also more worth taking care of. Every little second counts and must be used.
Like January 31st. I was going to have my second cataract operation the next day, and honestly with my poor eye sight I knew perfectly well what was at a stake. I did not cook or wash the house. Gunnar and I went for adventures, bringing our cameras with us. I did some comfort shopping on the local buy & sell internet place. An analogue cobra telephone, just for its beauty, a metal America trunk and a collectable Norwegian made portable radio from the fifties. We went collecting the merchandise all around the town.

Meanwhile we stopped the car and had a walk along the seaside, and later to enjoy sundown at the harbour. I had three naps in between, three telephone calls to my mother and we bought Chinese takeaway for dinner.
February first went well and so did the follow up control today.
I found great comfort in Psalm 90, which in Norway is read as a part of funeral ceremonies. It should rather be a hymn to life.

12 So teach us to number our days, that we may get us a heart of wisdom.

I feel grateful for these past days, but the day before yesterday in particular.

What's in it for me?

Amidala likes to stay in control whatever activities are going on in our home, both indoor and outdoor.She prefers working outdoors, but when her pal is occupied in his study, she keeps him company.

"Tell me, what's so interesting about your iphone. I cannot see neither food nor fun there," Amidala is not amused.

A HUGGING GIFT

As our children became older and the family expanded to enormous proportions, we decided to skip gifts within the grand-family for Christmas.
Nevertheless my BIL came gave us this tin poster from his good heart for Christmas. Because of the way it was given, and the nice text, I was very happy about it, and gave it a dominant place in our living room, beside the fireplace. I smile every time I look at it. Norwegians don't kiss a lot, but we are great huggers!

Cat Music

For one month and a half our two kids have been playing together late and early, hunting high and low, using balls, newspaper mice, you name it, Serina and Amidala have done it.
Serina came home in mid December with her bachelor degree and left for further studies in Ireland today.
Meanwhile we have all been under the influence.....
She is totally obsessed with the new Sherlock series. Down in Gunnar's study she found her old flute and some sheet music, trying out some lines from Paganini, opening music of the series.
Amidala was not amused. She simply lay her mighty body on the sheets so Serina was unable to read to music.
Lots and lots of laughter. Gunnar caught the golden moment with his iphone.
I just stood there laughing.
